Good fun but very different adaptation

If you're enticed by the title of Romeo + Juliet and are looking forward to an anime version of Shakespeare's tragedy, take this warning that this story is takes major liberties with the story and it is essentially a new tale set in Neo-Verona.
The characters Romeo and Juliet and the only ones who retain an essence of the original characters in the sense that they fall in love. However, the setting is Neo-Verona which is run by a dictator, Romeo's father, who seems intent on making life miserable for everyday citizens.
Once I got over the fact that this inspired tale was completely different from what i was expecting, I started to enjoy the story. It seems sweet and the revenge plot reminded me of Alexander Dumas.
It has the feel of a historical anime rather than a shoujo romance. I enjoyed it and would watch the rest of the series.- Was this review helpful to you?
