In this fun comedy, Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow play the dim-witted, down-on-their-luck blondes of the title, who pretend they are high-powered businesswomen at their high-school reunion to impress the former school mates who once made fun of them. The simple premise (a sort of Clueless for 20-somethings) is enlivened by the infectious performances of the leads and the slick support of Janeane Garofalo and Alan Cumming.
"...Breathless pace and cartoonish camerawork....A cute piece of bubblegum self-reflexivity....A cross between CLUELESS and MURIEL'S WEDDING..."
``I can't believe how cute I look.''
``Don't you love how we can say that to each other and we know we're not being conceited?''
``No, we're just being honest.''
This film is one of the brightest and hilarious high school reunion comedies in a while, a film that has a share of truth, but isn't afraid to cut loose.
It alternates scenes from the reunion with flashbacks to real memories of high school, and fantasy scenes. (including a complex formula for glue - classic!)
'Heartbreakers' helmer Mirkin is not afraid of colour and sunshine for its partial L.A back-drop, promoting a prozac happiness atmosphere that lasts until the very end.
A must!
