Really good stuff from an excellent blues rock guitarist. It's great to watch and listen to the music as was - no all singing dancing lights and effects, just solid crunchy guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. Thank goodness this music was filmed and recorded. A lot of this type of concert seems like a direct transfer from the video to the DVD - but whatever... at least we have it on the latest format. Try it, perhaps buy it... but you cannot deny it... it's good rock music and musicians performing.
one one word somes up this dvd fantasic was lucky enough to see the man live once at kent custom show...year ???? this brought it all back another sad loss to music RIP RORY BET HES GIVING THE ANGELS AND THERE HARPS A RUN FOR THERE MONEY PROBELY JAMING WITH THEM....
Two discs compiled from various appearances at Montreux - not all full gigs as featured in the 3 disc set of Rockpalast gigs released last year, but essential all the same. Rent it by all means - but I've ordered my copy to own already. The 75 era will always be a favourite of mine and I feel privileged to have seen him live a couple of times or so. A rare, honest talent - couldn't be more down to earth and unaffected by fame - and very sadly missed - a true star!

Not as good as I remember this great legend.

I'm not going to say this is totally brilliant. Too many other 'fans' will do that. It's best to be realistic.
I was lucky to see the man twice - 84 & 87. The first disc of this set shows the man's genius as it, and he should be remembered. The second disc (from 1994, the year before he passed away) shows a Rory Gallagher who had become disenchanted with the same old 'small crowd' atmosphere, and maybe he had a few too many 'sips' before doing that gig for camera.
The first disc covers 1975, 1977, 1979 & 1985 - a selection of tracks from those years. Absolutely superb playing. I felt a bit sad watching the second disc though.
Yes, Rory at Montreux is worth renting.

Rory Gallagher at Montreux Jazz festival is just essential for any fan, or anyone with a liking for blues rock, the 1979 show particularly stands out. I had never seen Rory rock out so much before. When you think of all the Rory dvds available and the number of shows he played for Rockpalast and Montreux (and others) it really showed his incredible work rate as a performer and the fact that he was very popular all over Europe. From these shows you can see he always had the audience chanting his name by the end in appreciation. Fans, like me, are really lucky to have so much footage around. The video quality here varies a but the music is never less than awesome.
