I rented this DVD having only stumbled across short clips of the programme on TV, but i knew i wanted to see more. There are four episodes on this DVD, which sees Ross Kemp meet gangs in El Salvador, Cape Town, St Louis and Moscow.

The El Salvador episode opens the DVD and is in my mind the most fascinating of the four episodes because the gang members he talks to seem quite prepared to let their guard down and talk to him. He gets to know certain gang members well. Along with Ross, you seem to be on the brink of getting to know and even feel sympathy for the people he is talking to, but then the programme finds a way to pull you back by confronting you with the reality of what these people do.

The Episode in Cape Town takes place almost entirely in a prison, showing a gang that operate inside of the prison walls and consequently there are people that are only to happy to be there. This episode gives you more of what you might expect from the gang, namely a wall of silence, until our host is granted an audience with the leader of our gang.

The St Louis episode looks at the growing gang culture in that city partly by focusing on one specific murder and building the story from there. Ross gets to meet a former gang member before getting to meet one of the leaders of the gangs in a very intense atmosphere, not exactly helped by the appearance of drugs and guns.

The final episode is set in Moscow, where Ross finds it all too easy to gain access to a neo-nazi group in a country that had it's people massacred by the nazis in WW2. The group even give Ross some training along with other ambitious neo-nazis. I thought this was the least interesting of the four episodes, though that may just be because the gang felt a little different from the rest of the gangs in the other episodes.

These programmes are well worth watching and Ross Kemp deserves praise for putting himself at risk like this. Great stuff.

I am a big fan of Ross Kemp since his Afghanistan series. I am always amazed as to why he travels to such places and how he makes it out alive!! This whole series made my skin crawl, much kudos to him for visiting these places and talking to the gang members as not sure I could put my feelings of disgust to one side. Another eye opening series and worth watching. Top bloke

Inciteful documentary about gangs in various parts of the world. Explores the causal links between the economical and political situations and gang formation. Kemp is the perfect reporter as he is down to earth, is respectful when interviewing members of different crews and never patronises.

I have read the books and found the movie to be very interesting, particularly as I'm from South Africa and he covers the Cape Town gangs. I enjoyed the fact that he delves into the gang mentality; it explained a lot for me.
