This performance is amusingly and attractively staged with excellent use of colour and effective sets. The singing is also very good but what puts it into a diffent class is the presence of the Peruvian tenor in the cast. Definitely highly recommended.
Worth seeing as an example of a comic opera production almost entirely devoid of laughs. Not easy to achieve. Florez is excellent; the rest of the cast mediocre. Interestingly there is an aria for the heroine late in the second act that doesn't figure on any other recording. The orchestral sound is clear and light.
