I selected this set of DVDs because I recall following Seasons 1 & 2 on terrestrial TV a couple of years ago, and was curious to find out how the various stories ended.
Like Seasons 1 & 2, Roswell mixes fanciful premise (Aliens do exist, and they're here among us) with the more interesting questions of 'if that were so, HOW would those young human-alien hybrids survive? How might they react if their nurture and therefore emotions, reactions, world views were as human as any other teenager's? What effect would such-and-such a drama, an emergency, an event, have on them & their relationships? Like all good drama (and life) - it's the process of testing which reveals the most: some solid-seeming relationships falter, others become stronger, as we see the youngsters continue to grow up. The characters are mostly three-dimensional, with believable complexities (Isabel's fear of revealing the truth to the person she loves): and the viewer is drawn into caring for each character, and hoping for the best outcome for each one.
Roswell doesn't have the same constancy and calibre of witty dialogue as series such as Buffy managed; but it is nevertheless entertaining.
So if you enjoyed Seasons 1 & 2: worth watching!
I'm sure I speak for fans around the world when I say it was sad watching the final episode of this great drama. The 'kids' really have come of age and they have to fight for their lives in the climatic finale. The FBI come within inches of catching them, plus those close to them FINALLY find out about their origin. Totally gripping although I did not feel the first couple of episodes were up to usual standards. Dont worry because things click into gear by Disk 2 and the compelling final disc (what a cliffhanger!!). If only school graduations were that exciting!
