An improvement on Vol. 1

This release still has most of the problems that Vol. 1 had:

1. It's 4 stories spliced together to make a single movie making the whole thing a little disjointed.

2. There's not enough violence and death (of the good guys).

3. The political commentary that featured so prominently in the original film is mostly missing.

However the stories that make up this film are considerably better. Each one is quite different - it's no longer 90 minutes of the same story done four times over. There's also more character based plot rather than just continuous bug blasting.

One problem I had watching this after Vol. 1, is that there's obviously some stories between Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 that have been missed out. For example there's mention of one of the apes being taken out by a brain bug in a previous incident, and there are other similar references.

Overall, reasonably enjoyable and apart from the lack of continuity, a big improvement on Vol. 1.

Blast Those Bugs!

A great computer animated series -packed with action and great special effects, featuring the troopers' struggle to eliminate alien bugs from taking over the planets.

Advice

They way the plots go it would be better to watch Volume 4 before volume 2 as they seem to have mixed the story lines up somehow in production.

Starship troopers for 1 yearolds

This is some of the worst animation I have ever had the misfortune to watch.

Characterless badly animated soldiers wondering round have conversation in the voices of 60's cartoon rejects and shooting equally badly animated bugs.

The film was superb but now this just made me want to cry... watched the first hour then repacked it and sent it back. waste of time 100%

Good film!

This whole series is good fun, good SF and true to the spirit of it's source material (everything the live action movie wasn't).

Watch in this order Pluto, Hydora, Tophet then this one, it will make much more sense.

Sequel - what sequel!

Starship Troopers Chronicles is somewhat lacking in the basic essentials of a sequel - any relation to the original, any attractive qualities as a separate identity and lastly anything like entertainment value. Disappointing

Back to the book

Not so much a sequel to the film as a re-imagining, I have managed to watch most of these in order, thanks to other reviewers.

POSSIBLE SPOILER One of the things about Heinlein’s book was the multiple flashbacks. The Tesca Campaign emulates this, in a way, by having one of the characters in a recovery tank and remembering. Some of these memories touch on parts of the book, such as the discussion about citizenship which was at the heart of the ‘polictical’ message, Rico messing up in training and almost quitting, and his reason for signing up in the first place.

An amphibious landing almost put me in mind of a scene from The Forever War, (often regarded as the opposite of Heinlein’s book), which also had the female soldiers that Starship Troopers did not.
