In this breathtaking crime drama, director Tom Tykwer keeps his audience on a knife edge as teenager Lola (Franka Potente) tries to raise the money that will save her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) from a homicidal gangster. Tykwer pushes cinema to superhuman limits, presenting three scenarios and conclusions, and utilising a dazzling array of cinematic devices — jump cuts and replays, colour turning to monochrome, action sped to a blur — as Lola takes part in a desperate race against time. This is an awesome achievement from one of Germany's most innovative film-makers.

Exhilarating, speedy thriller which provides three alternative versions of events, depending on tiny incidents which precipitate different consequences; it's a witty demonstration of the vagaries of cause and effect and the unpredictability of life.

    READ ME ONLY!!!!

Just ignore the bad reviews. If you didn't enjoy this film then you simply didn't get it, and it's not that hard to get. It doesn't matter it's that it's German or if some people found her running everywhere pointless (some reviews reccomended taking the bus. If you have a 20 minute time limit on a life or death situation who really would spend it waiting for the number 36 bus????) this basically is a very clever and enjoyable film. The director should be proud and I strongly recomend this picture. Most films aren't prepared to take risks anymore, but in saying that not all risks come off as well as Lola.

    Unique.

Run Lola Run is based on a simple idea - three repetitions of the same story with a different outcome each time. Lola's boyfriend has been robbed of the money he owes a big time criminal, and now Lola has to run to obtain a large sum of money and deliver it to her boyfriend before he commits an armed robbery to obtain the money. Sounds miserable? Don't believe it - it's a colourful, stylish film.

If anyone shares my trepidation about what might be found in a 15-rated film, don't worry - I'm sure it would have been a PG but for the swearing.

    Strange

Fast paced story with three different scenerios and three different endings. Weird but very watchable!

    20 minutes of mayhem

I liked this a lot. Franke Potente in the lead role and I can see why she got a couple of Hollywood films after this but the real star of the show is the direction which is superb. Based on a twenty minute period in the main characters' lives it's stretched out for considerably longer with repetitive shots done differently almost each time. There are small twists and turns that take you in a direction you weren't expecting as well as ones that are ludicrous, but they work. The film is played with a real edge of the seat feel to it and doesn't stray away from the central love story too much. The music wasn't great but it played the film perfectly and I think anyone who's enjoyed the likes of Trainspotting or Human Traffic would enjoy this film.

    all mouth, no nice trousers

I was so disappointed by this film. It's something i've been meaning to watch for ages having heard only good things about it. It's quirky and unusual which are qualities i like in films and the soundtrack was fantastic. This didn't however make up for the terrible quality and monotonous plot. There are some animated parts in this film that just made me want to stop watching because they are so amateur. I think it's one of those films that, if you haven't heard of it, and you stumble accross it, it seems like a really good find. It was obviously done on a relatively low budget, but that doesn't excuse it from being, on the whole, a bit rubbish. To say that anybody who doesn't like this film didn't get it is, in my opinion very short sighted. People like and dislike films for all sorts of reasons. Don't expect too much from this film and you might be surprised.

And the award for the most annoying film ever...

goes to Run Lola Run. Possibly one the worst, most annoying film I ever watched! Shame.. cos there was so much potential to start, and a great soundtrack.. but other than that... don't bother wasting your time.

    Low budget, big fun.......

Although this movie was probably made for less money than it costs to put on Tom Cruise's makeup, it's great fun. Don't be put off by the first 10 minutes, which are the worst part of the film, but allow yourself to enjoy the rest.

Highlights - a great soundtrack, which matches the mode of the film perfectly - fantastic originality with flashback (forward?) scenes - several real shocks - and one or two great comedy moments. Plus, although it's short (73 min), even if you like it or hate it, you will find yourself thinking about it for the next few days, and especially about the final frame.

    Fast and clever

This film is a slick, brilliant and fast-paced movie with a great soundtrack, whilst managing to be a bit clever.

When watching the movie, don't be too snobbish about subtitles being better than a dubbed soundtrack.

With subtitles, when characters talk, you get barely any time fror your eyes to flick up and see the rest of the screen which makes it likely you will miss out on visual detail. A dubbed soundtrack avoids that problem.

Also remember to watch the director's commentary - it's pretty interesting.

    Watch it!

    4 minute mile

Lola is a very fast paced, energetic, techno driven film, It will defo keep you entertained for its duration, the premise of the film is simple but well executed, and some of the camera work is superb, with great detailing in many of the 20 min reruns.

Watch it you will not be disappointed
