There's the germ of a riveting thriller idea in SWAT: a billionaire international terrorist offers $100 million to the criminal who springs him from US custody. Then a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team has to escort him across LA while every hoodlum not locked up tries for the bounty. It's the kind of idea that would have been done brilliantly by John Carpenter in the 1970s or John McTiernan in the 1980s. Sadly it comprises only a quarter of an hour at the end of this half-baked misfire, while the rest follows Colin Farrell's interminable retraining as a SWAT officer after being kicked off the team for disobeying an order. Farrell is bland, Samuel L Jackson appears to be aware he's slumming it and despite the regulation pumping soundtrack and frenetic editing, the result remains resolutely leaden.

    Well what did you expect!!!

I won't hear any complaints by watchers of this film! Unless you were born yesterday, you know what to expect before you hire it, which is of course, no-brains action and knuckle-head machismo. But isn't that the point? Sometimes we need some testosterone-pumping drivel to watch and not have to think about. Well, it made me feel better anyway and if this film had turned out to be touching and sensitive I think I would be feeling pretty cheated right now! As it is, this bog-standard action movie, lacking in plot and substance (think Top Gun for the 'noughties' but not as good!), leaves me feeling recharged and ready to begin watching and appreciating some meaningful and hopefully original material again (at least until Paycheck or the next Jackie Chan movie!). These money-spinners will continue to be made and will continue to put (boys') bums on seats, maintaining the equilibrium currently threatened by the overwhelming amount of wishy-washy chick flicks available. Just watch and enjoy it for what it is or don't bother!

    Brilliant

This is an all out brute film. You get whats on the tin. Samuel L Jackson is brilliant, so is Colin Farrell. Its thuggery from start to finish with the normal story line. If you are into all out action films with loads of explosions and good actors then this is definately a good film.

This is a great action packed film. Really a "bloke" film but for all those girls out there Colin Farrell is a pleasure to watch! Was not dull at any point and left you feeling good.

    No Brainer

If you want a film where you can unplug your brain and watch as people run around dodging bullets in the way only Hollywood can provide, then this is a great film. Personally, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good action movie with explosions and gunfire. I particually liked the part where the SWAT team were firing rounds of bullets at a burning plane on the ground, with full fuel tanks in an attempt to save the hostage inside !!!!!! Great stuff :o)

    G.O.O.D.

Good film, very much like the TV series only updated. Watch out for the original TV lead at the end driving the SWAT van.

    SWAT I expected

Typical run of the mill action movie. Got it's requisite gun fights and macho posturing. A decent film altogether - as long as you don't expect too much you will enjoy it, plus it's got a fairly heavyweight cast to boot.

    Standard Hollywood fare

About what you would expect from a big budget Hollywood action film.

The actors play their parts well enough, the plot makes more sense than most and the effects are good. As often happens in these films the overall result is, well, OK.

Worth a couple of hours on a wet Tuesday night but nothing to write home about.

IT DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN

This blockbuster surrounding the SWAT squad is exactly that a blockbuster. So don't expect a classic. Ok the subject is bland and v. far fetched but the best thing is just to sit back and enjoy. Jackson steals the show as Hondo. He also compensates for the less than impressive Farrell. The soundtrack is fantastic and the action scenes are superb. It is also very funny.

    Hugely Entertaining!!

Good fast-flowing movie which everyone enjoyed and watched from beginning to end without pause (unusual in our house). Plenty of action and enough background information on the characters to make them believable and gave an insight into how difficult and challenging the work of a SWAT team could be.

    OK, OK...

Admittedly I knew what to expect when this film hit my doormat; testosterone fuelled, macho, mind-numbing action. No problem. However, the thing is this: the action sequences were actually pretty impressive, the tempo and the overall style of the film were also very refreshing but why, in 2004 are we still seeing cliche ridden action movies who's scripts have failed to develop since the days of Lethal Weapon? I really want to elaborate on this but dont want to give anything away so all I'll say is count the number of times you are faced with an un-original moment and think where you've seen it before. From the 'Tough Cookie' female who everyone expected to be male (Oh yes, its in there) to the leading man battling against the odds, the list is endless! (And yes, expect plenty of witty one-liners straight after a shots fired)
