  • A 'safe' high octane film

Yep if action thriller is your thing then you will enjoy this, the script is pretty average to be fair - to summarise Frost (Washington) an ex CIA fugitive is on the run and goes to the US consulate after being cornered by Eastern Europenas that have been burned on a deal he is then taken to a safe house where CIA operative Weston (Reynolds) finds himself having to protect Frost after the Safe house is attacked. This leads to a cat and mouse affair between Frost and Weston as Frost trys to escape but somehow the pair are being chased all the time by the Eastern Europeans, could there be a mole back at CIA headquarters in league with them and why are they after Frost? Cue a fast moving thriller in line with the Bourne Franchise with fisty cuffs, shootings and car chases. A good cast, Washington does his usual laid back badman acting whist Reynolds doesn't quite pull it off and looks like he is about to cry in most scenes. Reasonable cinematography with the film set in South Africa. Hi-octane action with an average script with a mild twist at the end. The final scene is by no means original either. Watchable all the same.

It was a very watchable action movie, with interesting locations (South Africa), good cast, good car chases etc etc. But for me it was a bit too predictable, and formulaic. The 'twist' at the end was a very tired theme - the goodies turn out to be baddies, you don't know who you can really trust etc etc. We've seen it all before so many times. It reminded me a bit of Three Days Of The Condor crossed with Enemy Of The State with a sprinkling of Rendition. (All of which were better than this).

  • A different spy type film

This is a different look at the spy film, an agent selling secrets turns him self in, but the secrets he has means lots of people want him dead, the safe house is attacked and the the young agent looking after the the house goes on the run with the old agent, things are not as they seem. This film has a story that is portrayed through good acting by all involved.

It wasn't quite what I expected but certainly wasn't a disappointment either! This film was realistic and believable (within its boundaries) and wasn't tarnished with the usual Hollywood ending and cliches. I'm not normally a Ryan Reynolds fan but he was convincing and vulnerable (not traits I would usually attribute to him) and Denzel was his usually charasmatic self. Overall this film was a very pleasant surprise.

Tried three different copies of this dvd, to no effect. All failed to load - my perfectly reliable JVC player reported 'no disc'- some sort of incompatibility here.
