I rented this because I enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha. Its pretty much the same story as Memoirs too, following a young Japanese girl who has aspirations on becoming the head working girl in her brothel. The main character looks barely Japanese and is pale which causes envy among the other girls, and desire from all the men. There is a love intrest in the film and its more sexual than Memoirs too, showing more of exactly how the Geisha earned their money and reputation. The most enjoyable element was the visuals. Its gorgeous, with stunning images of Japanese art, beautiful hanging lanterns and the Kimonos worn by the girls are simply spellbinding. I gather it was made by some famous art photographer which would explain. Something worth commenting on is the soundtrack, it was strange to say the least. Some of the music was period, some pop, reminding me of Marie Antoinette. This film doesn't take itself too seriously and is an orgy for the eyes, enjoy.
