Most helpful review
an irreverant oddity, a couple of laughs at least
By MikeyMouse (39 reviews) from West Drayton , 26 Oct 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
This for me was worth it just to see our Pierce Bronsan play an American zealot pastor, not especially convincingly, but with a touch of that human fallibility, and in fact he was not altogether unlikable in the role. The secular sub-text, that it is better to be true to yourself and to go and seek your pleasure in sex, drugs and heavy metal than to be constrained within a lie by religion was alright and I didn't feel offended. For me, true faith was nowhere to be seen in this parody of an exploitative bible-bashing scene that's perhaps particularly Yankie anyway. It provides some truly quirky humour and absurd scenes of mayhem that generate chuckles. It could have been tidier and with a better screenplay, and it felt messy and half-baked. However full-marks for effort, and for the production's bravery in tackling head-on some real-life vested interests across the vast US Bible-Belt, and actually in its own way tackling some quite interesting theological issues along the way.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Slow, disapointing and not funny
By sgee42 (4 reviews) , 12 Nov 2012When I read the synopsis on this film I added it to my rental list as it sounded really good. Unfortunatley, it didnt quite live up to it and was rather disapointing. Found it difficult to get into and I don't remember it actually getting any better so needless to say I only watched about an hour of it and switched it off.- Was this review helpful to you?

Really Disappointing
By . (92 reviews) from London , 27 Sep 2012I may be biased, I believe Pierce Bronsan is a fine actor, perhaps he acts above and beyond to be humourous, but it just didn't work for me. Greg Kinnear, my most favourite ahh bless actor also was wasted in this. Jennifer Connelly - well much the same.
I lost the plot, I could not apply myself to the film because of how brilliant these actors are - so therefore I must say here, a case of total miscasting. Sorry- Was this review helpful to you?
