    [Highly rated reviewer]

The best series that I've ever seen. I can only wonder at how tastes have changed in the last 30 years, and how we've come to accept the rubbish that TV companies pump out in the name of art and entertainment. This series didn't have to rely upon bad language and sex to hold an audience enthralled.

I can only wish that present-day script-writers could be made to watch and learn how to do it properly.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and feel so much sorrow at the waste of money poured into today's rubbish.

Terrible acting ,grim story, cheap bad sets 1970s clap trap watching paint drying would be more entertaining ,so go and buy some dulux and a brush.

We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of watching the 1st Part of the Series of SAM, it brought back so many fond memories.

A very nostalgic series, portraying life as it was then, in a Yorkshire Mining Community.

Looking forward to watching Part Two.

  • An endearing series

Produced by Granada Television in 1973 this is an engaging story of family life in a Yorkshire mining community in 1934. It is full of strong characters and well written and well played roles. Future members of Coronation Street, The Bill, Londons Burning, etc can be seen adding support to the main cast. Ray Smith as Sams Uncle is a delight. There is a good chemistry between all and they are enjoying themselves in the strength of the parts. If you liked When the Boat Comes in you will like this. Only downside is the audio goes quiet at times.

I used to watch this series as a child my auntie would say sam coco then bed,I found it very interesting to watch again but drama and acting skills have come a long way since then, its not something you can really get into no real background to the characters in short its just an interesting museum type glimpse into how we used to live.
