Good performances - dodgy sound!

Domingo and Verrett are both superb in their roles - Domingo in his prime, Verrett more advanced in her career, but she still brings a ravishing tone to her singing, and a visually breath-taking production sets their performances off nicely. However the cavernous sets add to an already strange acoustic, sometimes it sounds like they are singing in a neighbouring barn with the door shut! Sometimes the picture lacks definition, it was recorded in 1981 on video tape, which doesn't stand up well to modern advances in TV screens. My only other niggle is some of the costumes are just TOO over the top - you feel sorry for the poor guy dressed like an extra from a monster line-up from Doctor Who in the 1970's! But generally a decent version, worth seeing for two great singers in their element.
