Sanjuro sees Kurosawa hitting his stride and producing a great samurai film with seeming ease. The film maintains a good momentum and contains scenes of violence, humour and philosophical introspection in equal measure. Toshiro Mifune excels as usual in the main role, exuding a brooding and pragmatic demeanour. A decent follow up to Yojimbo, especially for Kurosawa fans.
