After introducing how Santa and Mrs. Claus came to the North Pole and began their work delivering toys at Christmas time, this routine children's film segues into a story about an evil corporate magnate (John Lithgow). One of Santa's elves (Dudley Moore) goes to work for the nasty tycoon and invents a wild array of far-out toys. Then there is a little boy who does not believe in Santa Claus and a girl who finds out about the toymaker's plans to defraud his company. Santa's reindeer are a little under the weather, not to mention Santa himself. This labyrinth of subplots quickly draws attention away from the story, wherever it is.~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

One wonders whether Szwarc had presents delivered down his chimney the year this was made.
Children are now facing the prospect of permanent brain-softening from 1985's Superman stand-in. High up in the glacial... read more on Time Out
THIS MOVIE IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE SANTA CLAUES TRILOGY WITH TIM ALLEN BUT IS STILL A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS FILM, WHEN THIS MOVIE WAS MADE IN 1985 DUDLEY MOORE WAS AT THE TOP OF HIS CAREER AND A MASSIVE STAR SO IT'S A TRIBUTUE TO DUDLEY THAT HE STILL HAD TIME TO MAKE A KIDS /FAMILY FILM.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES DUDLEY
The best Xmas film ever, you can watch this anytime of year and it's still great, a good family all rounder.
The other day I watched our three-year-old’s stage début, typecast already as a wise man. The performance wasn’t all it might have been, to be honest. He seemed more interested in feeding straw to Baby Jesus than joining in any of the carols. Until, that is, a rousing rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" triggered his inner Kanye. That was also the cue for a special surprise guest star: the big guy in the red suit made his entrance ringing bells, showing off his dance moves, Read more
