Most helpful review Sarah McLachlan - Afterglow Live

  • Excellent Live DVD + Bonus Audio CD

I have enjoyed Sarah's music for some time, and this DVD is an excellent live recording of some of her greatest songs. I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough, both for existing fans, and those looking for some interesting and enjoyable live music.

The only downside is the sometimes out of focus and rapidly moving camera work that does slightly distract from the overall enjoyment of the concert. Hence this one only gets 4 stars, the audio and material gets 5.

FYI - The bonus disc is an Audio CD of the first 15 songs from the live concert. You may, or may not, decide to take this, as all the songs are on the DVD anyway.

This is an excellent performance by a great artist spoiled by the audience whooping and hollering during all the quiet bits even while Sarah is talking. Why can't these stupid people just shut up enjoy the music and cheer BETWEEN the songs?

Not may people in England have heard of Sarah McLachlan, well, remember the movie City of Angels, and the excellent track 'Angel' from the soundtrack, well that is her, and every song on this live cd is as good if not better. She has an angelic singing quality and this concert will blow you away . . . .RENT IT . . .

First - nothing you can do could take away from the stunning beauty of her words and music, and there is a strong selection of songs on this DVD.

The interview is relaxed and revealing and nice to have. Vancouver looks great.

But...the camera skips all over the place, there is really obtrusive and rather naive repetition of pulling focus in and out, and while she is enjoying herself, the mix takes a lot of the humanity out. Sadly, this DVD doesn't really do her justice.

A wonderful artist who consistently delivers, yet this DVD fails to show her at her best. Worth a watch, but only just.

Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan is huge in her homeland, capable of selling out huge arenas in a matter of hours. In this country, however, her profile is much, much lower. This DVD shows why they are right and we are wrong.

Blessed with the voice of an angel (her voice is only half an octave shy of Mariah's) and a formidable writing talent, Sarah gives us a voyage through her catalogue which demonstrates both admirably.

As well as almost all of the tracks from her last album, Afterglow, we are treated to many highlights from the last twelve or thirtenn years, from the beautiful, haunting 'Angel' (which Westlife murdered horribly back in 2002) and the dark brooding 'Ice', through to the light, joyous paean to true love that is 'Ice Cream'.

The true highlight for me, though is 'Fear', which showcases her voice to the full, beginning low and gentle, before soaring effortlessly into the stratosphere, while all the time retaining full control and clarity. If that doesn't make your spine tingle, you're beyond help.

Beautifully filmed in crystal clear 16:9, and loaded with a superb 5.1 soundtrack, this disc is highly recommended.
