Savage Islands

When a South Pacific island comes under attack from a gang of blood-thirsty bandits, young reverend Nate Williamson (Michael O'Keefe) is left for dead and his fiancee kidnapped. His only hope of rescuing her lies in an unholy alliance with the notorious buccaneer Bully Hanes (Tommy Lee Jones). Set during the mid-1800s, SAVAGE ISLANDS embodies an oppressive, lawless time when violence on the high seas was the order of the day. The film, however, offsets all the carnage with humour, romance, and a good deal of swashbuckling thrills.

    Savage Island:Dated Treasure

I ordered this, as I remembered it from watching it as a child. Its is a 19th century pirate story, in the South Pacfic mixing slavery and pre World War 1 Germany in the mix. Some of the actions good, but the story is a bit long winded and can drag . The characters are OK but don't captivate, even Tommy Lee Jones', and his crew, is glossed over sadly. The film however today does look very dated and hasn't aged well. The ships aren't very impressive, especially the Dreadnought. However when watching it, remember Pirates of The Caribbean 1 (The rougish/likable pirate, the law abiding new member first not liking him to being his friend, the ending very like it, showed my brother and he guessed what its was from straight away, perhaps copyright should be involved.).
