Tiresome whimsy
By Rehan (127 reviews) from London , 18 Nov 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
A perfect example of a predictably whimsical piece of English cosiness. If undemanding, formulaic cuteness is what you enjoy watching, by all means go for this film: there are worse ways to waste an hour and a half. But there are a great many better ways too.
It's a little sad to see actors of the calibre of Brenda Blethyn in this sort of combination of ITV comedy-drama and a Hovis ad.
British scripwriting has the potential to be a hell of a lot better than this work.- Was this review helpful to you?

By RiaM (1 review) , 08 May 2013Excellent film, watched it 100 times and it never gets old. Very funny film, likeable characters and brilliant bonfire scene at the end- Was this review helpful to you?

Average comedy to grace your screen
By Bobsview (549 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 27 Apr 2013Average British comedy about widow who attempts to resolve her financial problems by growing marihuana. Starts well and is amusing and well acted with an all star cast but loses its way and is unsure how to end it, although the end result is not bad and very watchable.- Was this review helpful to you?

It's like Doc Martin, only worse!
By a customer from Devon , 20 Apr 2012A waste of a talented cast. I couldn't feel any sympathy for the characters or the plot line. Are we really supposed to feel sorry for somebody intent on clearing her debts to continue living in her mansion by growing cannabis? Martin Clunes was inept and will want to forget this performance. I hated Doc Martin and this film had all of the TV show's worst qualities, multiplied several times over. Don't bother!- Was this review helpful to you?

Quite possibly the worst movie you'll ever see, and I love being right.
By Onlyests (57 reviews) , 16 Feb 2012I cannot begin to describe how bad this film is, so why try. I mean it's like try to describe just how bad marmite covered brussel sprouts taste. I'm just lost for words. Well, okay, a few words come to mind, but I suspect the review wouldn't show up then. Honestly, who gives people a budget to make these films? It has the feel of a person who's drunk out of their mind trying to tell a joke and they can't remember the punch line.- Was this review helpful to you?

Warm feelings all round
By a customer , 20 Nov 2011A very gentle story laced with gentle humour. It's one of those small-scale, contained, modest, British movies that makes you feel all warm and fond. A few genuinely funny bits in it too.- Was this review helpful to you?
