In 2004, a low-budget horror film about a man who put people with moral failings into grisly, murderous situations became a huge hit. In 2005, the sequel scored again, upping the body count and the terror. In 2006, the franchise continued, with plenty of gore as well as an emotional story line that delved into the psychological .. Jigsaw is on his deathbed and he is depending on his next victim to save him. However she, a surgeon from the local hospital, has got other problems her husband is being played. Will he survive and will Jigsaw die???
This is a great film but not as good as Saw 1 or 2
However it is a real must if you are a fan
After the ingenious Saw, and the breakneck Saw 2, comes Saw 3. Following the seperate story strands of Doctor Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), who must keep a dying Jigsaw alive, and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), who is trying to avenge his son's death, the film is guilty of severely diminishing returns.
The attempts to inject this series with some 'human drama' falls flat with a collection of unlikeable and stupid characters, and the pacing is flabby. The gore, which used to be inventive and fresh, is now just nasty and gratuitous (the chest scene being a particular lowlight.)
The tension that made the first film so good is nowhere to be seen, with the film providing none of the shocks and jumps of say, the camera flash scene of Saw. Instead we are 'treated' to a series of genuinely repulsive torture traps, each one more revolting than the last. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the original, and even quite enjoy the second, but this just left a nasty taste in my mouth.
The final scenes wrap the series up relatively cleanly, and I would like to say that this was the end of this rapidly decaying franchise, but with Saw 4 already in development for an October release, I think Jigsaw will be playing games with us for the forseeable future.
Get ready for a lot more blood...
Well, what a suprise. Lets make another horror film add in some pointless shock scenes and then we'll have 60 mins for a story.
If you think the secound encounter was worse than the first, the third is much worse.
A typical, what seems to be, lets cash in on the success of a good successful first film, trash.
Having seen the previous two films on dvd.. when it came out last year at the cinema, I couldn't wait to see it. I usually wait for the dvd cos of the subtitles feature.
However, lucky for me i was able to piece jigsaw pieces together as you get to find out what happened to the victims at the end of the previous two plus a shock in store regarding Amanda.
It is gruesome, have heard that people have fainted watching this. But i'm just one of those lucky people who has got a strong stomach and admires the special effects. It's twistly painstakilly torture.
It is not one for the faint hearted and if you're one of those people that hides behind a cushion, do not watch it.
I know that there will be a SAW 4, sorry to spoil the plot but I won't reveal the twist at the end.
I dare you to watch.
A series that started life as something new and inventive has been reduced to having to up the ante in order to keep its audiences interest e.g. a series of more elaborate traps and therefore deaths, adding twist after twist so it isnt possible to care about anyone in the film and of course having a final twist that you didnt see coming. They should have left the original Saw movie as a stand alone film.

Hmm, maybe I missed something in Saw 2, but why is one of Jigsaw's victims helping him and being even more sadistic than he is? This lacks the originality of the first film, sequels usually do, the contrived methods of killing have become a bore, but it did keep me watching to the end. If you have seen Saw 1 and 2 you may as well complete the series, but do we really need Saw 4?
The 3rd installment of this continuing movie set (Please don't end up like Nightmare on Elm Street,) continues with more weird games and traps and as ever the best bit of any of the Saw movies the great twist at the end. It has been said, in many of these reviews about this film, that the EXTREME edition of this movie wasn't necessary and I have to agree. I have followed each of the Saw movies and have raved to anyone I can about how great they are. However, I think that the imagination is stronger than anything you can see on screen and in this case I really do believe I would have prefered to see the NORMAL EDITION of this film, not the extreme one (My mistake.) The goryiness goes beyond the call of duty, as I never really saw these films as horror, but as thrillers, which is why I found them brilliant. To much blood and gore in this edition led me to the conclusion of 3 stars. I will be watching SAW 4 when it comes out later this year, but I will rememeber to see the normal version and use my own imagination.
Trying to keep a franchise going is a tough thing to do, for every Back to the Future 3 there is a Godfather 3. After the frankly enjoyable Saw and its interesting sequel we have this addition to the gore-puzzle-gore activities of the jigsaw killer.
Almost 60% of the film appears to be in flashback, trying to hang some form of plot around events that have already occured, leaving the viewer not really caring. Of course those that like some blood splattering will enjoy some of the highlights ala a spot of brain surgery and some interesting piggy action, but having grown up with video nasties, this was all very stale.
Saw was brilliant. Clever, well made with a great ending.
Saw 2 was alright. Nowhere near as good as the original but, for a sequel, not bad.
Saw 3 really isn't great. One of the things that was great about the original is that you didn't actually see any gore. Getting the audience to use their imagination when it comes to action (and particulary gore) scenes is far more effective than flanuting blood and gore infront of them. We can see this in Saw 3.
The whole idea of the Saw films being clever goes out the window when you turn it into a complete bloodbath.
After seeing the first two Saw films, the ending isn't as much of a shock as it originally was in Saw, your constanty thinking things through yourself and in places, guessing what's going to happen.
Overall I was dissapointed with the 3rd installment. I have to say i'm not looking foward to Saw IV (coming late 2007).
Got to be honest Saw was good but done by amateurs. Saw 2 was just plain silly! Now Saw 3 started as Saw 2 left off; shallow characters one set piece after another. All jump cuts and rock music to fill the gaps between deaths. These type of horror films are for girls and kids, there's no suspense no fear just cheap thrills.
Why the three stars? Well unlike Scream 3 they did a good job of tying together all three films. It was good to see them all link up and throw some light on the Jigsaw myth.
Yet again not disappointed at all! Twisted and deep on the same level as the first saw definitely worth watching! Gory and twisted!
This was by far the best film out of the trilogy in my opinion (Saw 2 let the others down).
It flashes back a fair bit to Saw 1 and Saw 2, so you do need to have seen the other 2 films before watching.
I thought this one was the most uncomfortable to watch, yet was the most riveting (some of the twists were slightly predictable but that didn't ruin the viewing in any way).
