Set on one afternoon on Hampstead Heath, London, the film investigates the minutiae of seven couples. This was not at all what I expected, it is a witty, often laugh out loud, often cringeworthy film, that has some parts (if not all) that we can see in many of our own relationships and friends. I can see some reviewers were dissapointed by it not having 'sex' scenes or being artsy, it does not need the sex, and is close to real life rather than being in an way artsy. I didn't feel it to be at all like that. It was a charming fun poke at the vagaries of 'normal' relationships, and what it did, it did extremely well. It is one of those if you miss at the cinema, it is ideal to rent. I would put it on your rental list and give it a go.
We managed about 30 mins of this film before we had to turn it off. Each scene started promisingly but then just drivelled on and on in the most cringey, unconvincing way - long after the point had been made. The script was awful. Generally a big disappointment as with the cast and it being British i was expecting something really funny, quirky and interesting.
We caught up with the versatile British actress Sophie Okonedo to ask her about her role in The Secret Life of Bees, in which she stars alongside Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Paul Bettany. Sophie is probably best know for her Oscar-nominated performance as Tatiana in Hotel Rwanda, so we also asked her about breaking into the US and the films that inspired her to become an actress.
