Saving Private Ryan and E.T were probably the best films of their genre, but you can't measure the impact of this film against those, and to attempt to compare it to A.I. and Catch Me If You Can is simply just crass (sorry!). This film portrays the heart rendering suffering the Jewish populous of Europe had to suffer at the hands of the Nazis. It shows how they were tortured, maimed, abused and exterminated and leaves us wondering about the futility of it all. We can only be left trying to understand the fear and suffering that must have been felt during that time. Although these horrors can never be recaptured for real on film, this film is the next best thing to us as individuals trying somehow to vainly grasp what must have been felt. Think about it!

  • Lest we forget - a true masterpiece in remembrance

A stunning and moving piece of social history. These sort of films should be watched even if in the watching we feel uncomfortable - its important to be reminded of the depths that people can sink to - 6,000,000 Jews slaughtered - a waste of human life. However, the movie also shows the other side of human nature - goodness - and what can be achieved if we so choose. In mirroring life the film reveals a redemptive thread running through the horrendous brutality and shows there is hope even in the darkest of places. An outstanding production by Spielberg - in my view his very best! A wonderful performance by Liam Neeson and tremendous supporting roles by Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley - but to be honest there are countless amazing performances here. Without giving the ending away I love the end scene - without doubt the most touching and inspiring of the whole movie!

  • A film not to miss.

This is one of the most moving and and inspiring films that I have watched in recent times. Liam Neison is utterly fantastic in the lead role aided wonderfully by his co-stars. The story is naturally bleak but the portrayal of modern history's darkest moments Is demonstrated brilliantly. The direction of the film is incredibly sensitive and shows real genius. In my opinion this is essential viewing for everyone. The human perspective is both shoking and frighteningly true, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Very potent film.

  • A must see movie - one of the best ever

No-one in their right mind would suggest this is a movie to relieve the stresses of life, but while it is distressing in places it is also life affirming in equal measure. The numbers killed in the holocaust are too great to get your head around, but this movie manages to get the huge effect on individuals caught up in these horrific events across to the viewer and in so doing delivers its emotional payload with unerring skill. There is a very good reason this film won multiple Oscars. The Artist may also have been in monochrome, but it is a piece of fluff compared to this. You just have to gird your loins, accept it is worthwhile and watch it. Odds are high you will cry at some point - yes men as well - but that should be taken as a mark of how brilliant it is.

  • Must watch!

I had vaguely heard of this movie in the past but did not know exactly what it was about. Even less that it was a true story. This is a must watch movie. It is a great insight in the lives of the Jews of Poland during World War II. It also shows to what extent people went to save Jews during the Holocaust. To be honest I don't understand the little girl in red, but nevertheless a great movie that should be watched by all. Don't be put off by the fact that it is in black and white. And remember it was directed by Steven Spielberg. What else need I say: watch!

  • Too Long

Ok so this film IS powerful and quite beautiful in someways, but i felt that the story could have been told in a much shorter length of time. Emotionally it was difficult to watch and gave an insight into Nazi regime, it is deep and heartbreaking just a little too long for my liking.
