Saving Private Ryan and E.T were probably the best films of their genre, but you can't measure the impact of this film against those, and to attempt to compare it to A.I. and Catch Me If You Can is simply just crass (sorry!). This film portrays the heart rendering suffering the Jewish populous of Europe had to suffer at the hands of the Nazis. It shows how they were tortured, maimed, abused and exterminated and leaves us wondering about the futility of it all. We can only be left trying to understand the fear and suffering that must have been felt during that time. Although these horrors can never be recaptured for real on film, this film is the next best thing to us as individuals trying somehow to vainly grasp what must have been felt. Think about it!

This film was with out a doubt the best i have ever watched, it covers and awful time in the history of the world, it pulls no punches and was incredibly moving, the ending left me in floods of tears. It astounds me reading these reviews that people have slated it with out even watching it either due to it being in black and white, or becuase of the director. Stick it on your list, sit through it...yes...all the way to the end...and then review it, otherwise don't waste peoples time.

  • Powerful and Shocking

Now I have seen a lot of films, one's which are suppose to brutal and shocking like you've never seen before examples in question include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, Saw franchise and so on.

Let me tell you this Spielberg's definitive film is Schindler's List people will say how compared to JP or E. T? Simple this film is based on real life.

Schindler's List did something for me that no other film has done in quite a while it managed to shock and distress me. Some of the acts that were happening on screen were sickening. The signature scene of the girl in red is masterfully presented as she walks amongst the chaos of genocide.

The films success is the powerhouse cast that Spielberg assembled, the musical score of John Williams and the brilliant direction.

This film will stand the test of time and remind everyone of the biggest hate crime ever committed.

The only drawback I would say is that it's perhaps overly long for the subject matter, but that's nitpicking, a well observed film and one to watch before you die.

  • Difficult to watch - but should be watched by all

This is a rare example of film-making perfection. Exceptionally made and acted - the black and white filming method is a master-stroke and the very few instances of colour are highly emotive and relevant.

Neeson and Fiennes give the performances of their lives. Neeson as the somewhat callous businessman turned saviour and Fiennes as the sheer embodiment of evil and cruelty.

There is no doubt that this film makes for difficult viewing at times and pulls no punches in showing what went on at this time but it is for this reason that this should be essential viewing for everybody, if only to show us what human beings are capable of and to ensure that such evil will never take hold of humanity again.

A must see before you die film!

Fantastic story telling, and obviously because it is mostly factual, based on a true story, makes it all that more horiffic.

Everyone should see this at least once, Liam Neeson is amazing, beautiful music, should probably be an 18 though :S

Simply Outstanding Movie ,enough said :-) ! Just in case u r interested to know i watched a documentary on BBC about the concentrations camp's Commander's daughter and one of the survivers meeting eachother after all these years , the documentary was average really but got to know things i didnt know before also watched his court and Execution , it took the poles three attempts to hang the guy , low quality rope i suppose , anyways made me think it is actually impossible to punish some people in this world ! another timeless dimention is needed so the crime can fit the punishment at last ! all this evil what is it for !! for some years in this sh..t hole ! does it really worth it ....hmmmmm
