A Classic
By a customer from Stone , 05 Feb 2009A suitable realisation of the sentimental (at least) Dickens classic. Alistair Sim is given his opportunities to present what he can do, and he certainly does it. A pleasure to hear the classic English, and not at all badly directed, either!
Not quite the stunning realism that might be aimed at these days (it was made in 1951), but not suffering because of that. Not extraneous special effects (just a few, and of the time), so that the story line was not diverted trying to do too much.
A very good session's entertainment - how old fashioned can one get?- Was this review helpful to you?

Scrooge (1951)
By a customer from Crook , 02 Dec 2008Absolute classic film, this film has been re-done a hundred times but I always find this version is the best. If you love classic Black and White films then you'll love this one.- Was this review helpful to you?

Heart-warming
By a customer from Redcar , 31 Oct 2008I grew up watching this film every Christmas without fail since I was a small child. I'm now 28 and still hold the greatest affection for it. Though it was written so many years ago, the moral of the story still holds as much relevance today and a lot of people could learn from it. The acting is truly fabulous by all the cast and if the closing scenes at the end don't warm your heart to the core, then there's something wrong with you. This is by far the best version ever made and a wonderful festive watch for all the family. Please don't be tempted with the 'colour' version as its just not the same! Black & white is how this film was meant to be viewed along with a cold, wintry night snuggled up on the sofa with a glass of mulled wine. Perfection!- Was this review helpful to you?
