A Definite WinnerBy Vanessa from Blackburn , 29 Apr 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]What a tearjerker! Unless you knew that this was a true story, you would have thought that this was just Hollywood throwing in all the cliches. An old timer, a businessman down on his luck, a boy with a disability and a mistreated horse. But, it's all true. And you don't have to be into racing to enjoy it. This is a real feel good movie, that avoids being overly-sentimental, and captures the inter-war period of America perfectly.

Love itBy a customer from Luton UK , 26 Jun 2007What can I say? I saw it at the cinema, I saw it on cable, I rented it again. This is a lovely story and it's both well told and beautifully filmed. Watch it, especially if you love horses, racing , winning, losing, you know all that brave and agaainst the odds stuff and if you don't ....watch it anyway.
My reviewBy Jennifer Bruce from Reading, England , 20 Jun 2007I thought this was a good and moving film. It was a little slow in places, but the acting made up for this. I wouldn't want to see this film a second time though, which proved that once was enough!
Excellent!By a customer from Poole, Dorset , 04 May 2007It may be slow to begin with but keep watching as its excellent! Great performances from Tobey Maguire (who's even sexy as a redhead!!), Jeff Bridges and Chris Cooper. It may seem farfetched but its a true story which is amazing!
Really DisappointingBy a customer from UK , 29 Apr 2007We were really disappointed in this film-the story was disjointed and you never got time to care about the characters.
Enjoyable in spite of itselfBy Pinkmat (205 reviews) from Exeter , 27 Mar 2007I would never order a film starring Tobey Maguire so I'm not sure why this was sent to me. However, as it was here I watched it. I still don't like Tobey Maguire's hang dog expression and overtired voice. The other actors made up for it, especially William H. Macey's eccentric racing reporter. I liked the narration and photographs from the real story but the film is a bit slow to get started. You sort of get the point of these people who have all 'suffered' getting together at some point but that point was a long time a coming. Having said all that, I did find the film enjoyable. It was a feel good movie without being over sentimental. If it had not been a true story I would have said it was full of cliches. The conversations between jockeys whilst riding were a bit odd but in the end I did find it an enjoyable film.
