From the director of "Repo Man" and "Sid & Nancy" comes Searchers 2.0. As child actors, Mel and Fred were beaten and whipped by an imperious screenwriter, Fritz Frobisher. Now the elderly Fritz is to appear at a tee-shirt signing ceremony in Monument Valley, AZ, where his great films were made. Still living in LA and seeking work as actors, Mel and Fred decide to go to Monument Valley and give Fritz a drubbing. Since neither of them has a working car, they invite Mel's estranged daughter, Delilah, to give them a ride.

Sweet funny road movie

Two have-beens who were mistreated during a western as kids learn they can get revenge while a projection of this movie is made in the Death Valley. But they need a car, and one of them will persuade their estranged daughter to use her car. Slow, no action, it's all in the dialogs between the 3 protagonists.

Road movie that doen't get your Enthusiasm off the Curb

The delivery of the dialogue and editing is very much in the vein of the popular Curb Your Enthusiasm TV series but it really lacks the savvy and wit of it's small screen counterpart. The movie is largely based around the film-reference heavy dialogue that the three central characters engage in during the course of a road trip. Film buffs may seek out some of the titles that are discussed and will no doubt beam with pride after the question 'What's the best military movie ever made?' is thrown up for discussion.

It takes time to really identify with the characters. However, once you do the poorly written ending is bizarre undoes virtually all aspects of the rather flimsy plot. It just makes little sense on any level and ends quite abruptly.

In more capable hands this could have been an undiscovered gem. Shame.
