LOVEFiLM Review Secretariat

Diane Lane and John Malcovich star in this true story about Secretariat, a racehorse that won the Triple Crown in 1973.

  • Great feel good film!

Great film, with an invite to a preview of the film I was unsure what to expect, all I knew was it was a Disney film, based on true events, starring a horse.

It was exactly that but was so much more, the awe inspiring story of an unlikely competitor succeeding, not only succeeding but setting a yet to be broken record.

With a fabulous all star cast ( was shocked to see Nelsan Ellis from True Blood in a Disney Flick), a great soundtrack and some great camera angles, I really enjoyed this. It is not everyone's cup of tea but if you like a feel good film then give it a go!

Lovely film of the extraordinary, true story of big red wonder horse Secretariat. Diane Lane is great as Penny Chenery Tweedy, who takes over her ailing father's racing stable and puts her faith in the colt even before he's born. A terrific supporting cast, headed by John Malkovich as her eccentric trainer and Margo Martindale as her father's redoubtable secretary, make this a gripping, tear-jerking feel-good film to remember.

Brilliant film, well worth watching more than once. Nice to see the original person was involved too. Might need your tissues to hand.

  • Secretariat - a splendid true story

True story that is extraordinary and well worth hearing about. The female star lead shows true grit and determination in the face of adversity ...and triumphs over vociferous rivals. Suffers a little on pace - the Director could do a better cut. But I still recommend it.

Loved this film! Being a horse lover it was right down my street! I had heard of Secretariat, but had not known what an achievement he made!
