Overated
I felt that after 4 episodes that I got the joke and didn't need to see anymore.People have praised this show for years but I really couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

Comic Gold
The selfish adventures of Jerry, George, Elaine and Cosmo are to my mind the greatest sitcom series ever. The viciousness of the behaviour, the social acuity of the observations, the labyrinthe intricacy of the plotting made every 20 minute episode a pure joy. They were pretty much shelved into a midnight screening slot by the BBC over here so could never replicate their massive Stateside success. As such this DVD release may be the only way for newcomers to the show to find out what the fuss is all about.
A word of advice though. The first season really does seem clunky (Seinfeld himself observes on the disc it feels like a home movie) as the series did take time to develop it's pace. As such the first disc is really a curiousity piece for die-hard fans, as the actors are only just starting to develop their characters, and it's interesting to see the little changes that were necessary to turn the show into gold-dust. Therefore newcomers would be best off starting with the third season discs to get themselves hooked for life. That's where the show really starts hitting it's stride, never missing a beat for the rest of it's run. The sheer venality of the characters is still a breath of fresh air. Enjoy. -
