A Robin Williams film for people who don't really like Robin Williams, this edgy adaptation of Saul Bellow's novel sees... read more on Time Out
Normally put off Robin Williams by his over=sentimentalised roles, I was attracted to Seize the Day by its more serious content. I wasn't disappointed, though I feel at times Williams disguises his acting ability with over-the-top facial expressions!
Admittedly he is fortunate here being supported by a strong cast of excellent character actors, so if like me you recoil at Williams' normal choice of role, try this film - you may be pleasantly surprised.
This was a pleasant little tale about a salesman who is steadily being driven down the slippery slope to desperation by his wife, boss, friends and even his father.
Beautifully acted with a very talented cast including Joseph Wiseman (Dr No) as Tommy Wilheim's (Robin Williams) father Dr. Adler and Jerry Stiller as the manipulative Dr. Tamkin.
The scenes were excellent and when Tommy confronts his father for help in the Hotel steam room, the atmosphere is so much like that of a morgue, that Tommy has a struggle to escape from the tiled death trap.
A nice twist at the end, with Williams showing that he always had true acting potential. A good rental as the film was OK but not one that I would want to keep.
