I'll never marry a woman!
By Pudden (14 reviews) , 10 Oct 2011A sad tale of a girl who dared to look above her station and dream of becoming an artist. Definitely not a fluffy film but one full of pathos and totally believable- Was this review helpful to you?

a bit slow
By a customer , 06 Sep 2011A bit too slow paced for me. Nice colours but i couldn't muster up any sympathy for Seraphine. Kept hoping it would end soon.- Was this review helpful to you?

Absolutely astonishing
By rtb (131 reviews) from London , 30 Aug 2011I dont know how I came across this film - just by chance I suppose. How lucky for me. I was completely blown away by the story and the cinematography - its so beautifully crafted and told in such an elegant, sparing way that it really does deserve the epithet of 'art'. I watched it all the way through in one sitting - quite literally couldnt tear myself away from it.
The quality of acting is astonishing - Moreau is amazing. The tiniest gestures signify so much - in an early scene, Seraphine plunders some candlewax from the cathedral and makes a small, entrancing and entire natural gesture towards the image of the Virgin as if to say 'Its only a little bit of wax; I'm sure you won't miss it'. Literally breathtaking in its simplicity and truth.
What a wonderful film this was - a real unexpected treasure.- Was this review helpful to you?
