I lost the will to watch more after the first few cliches. I did try to get into this but I could not find anything different or anything that had an outstanding or redeeming quality.

It is a shame because I usually manage to enjoy either the storyline or some good acting or special effects which I like about a movie but sadly I found this one just too mediocre.

  • A fitting conclusion

I'm a huge fan of Firefly, it's one of my top three TV shows. The film isn't quite as good, but it's a fitting conclusion and does answer a few questions raised in the series. It has the same qualities as the series, the crew fit well with each other and the banter draws you in. The Shepard only has a passing involvement in the film, which is a shame as he was one of my favourite characters. For me River was one of the weaker characters in the show, but she comes into her own more in the film. Her fight scenes are a wonderful display of movement. Jayne as always is a jot to watch. It looks good, sounds good and is fun to watch. I didn't weep this time, but I did the first time I watched it. If you don't know why then you need to watch the film to find out :-)

together with 'firefly', this is the single greatest universe i have ever entered! this movie ties up the series excellently, yet is watchable/enjoyable without ever seeing 'firefly'. although i would highly recommend watching that series beforehand, to get a better picture of the universe you're entering, and a better understanding of the characters you will be enjoying! funny, fast paced and with whedonesque slick dialogue... at the same time as being a serious, large scale and one point tragic adventure for the firefly family! 5 stars all the way!!

Please watch the series Firefly before you watch this film. The series was only 13 episodes so wont take long. As a standalone film this is decent but fans of the show will love it and almost everyone that watches the series becomes a fan!

Firefly was an excellent series and while I understand why it got cancelled, doesn't mean it wasn't disappointing! Thankfully Serenity was OK'd to conclude the story, and maintains the quality of the series. Essentially a western set in space, the movies plot centres around River and Alliance attempts to recapture her using a somewhat ruthless Operative (excellently played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). All the usual humour and one liners are present and the film moves along at a fairly quick pace. The cast are, as you'd expect, strong, reprising their roles from the series and of course Nathan Fillion is a highlight. The effects are good, while not state of the art, and for action lovers plenty of stuff blows up. There's action from the conflicts with the Reavers(sp?), even though their presence and back story felt slightly predictable. Generally the writing is slick Joss Whedon (of who I'm a fan in general) at his best. Overall, the way the plot develops feels like a conclusion to the series, which is really what was needed, an excellent film and a recommended purchase.

  • Great, but not as good as the TV series prequel 'Firefly'

I watched this when it was shown on TV not long ago having never watched 'Firefly' and thought it to be a very good film. It then caused me to watch the original TV series after a couple of years of meaning to (living in the UK I have never seen it on any of the channels). I watched the entire series, which is amazing, and decided to watch this straight after and it turned out that it was not one of my best moves as I found it somewhat of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, its a very good film but it does not compare to 'Firefly'.
