Many sci-fi/fantasy aficionados already speak of Dean R Koontz in the same revered terms as Stephen King. Invariably, even the best adaptations have an author's fans protesting that the film falls far short of the book, but this TV movie should not disappoint the converted and might just persuade the uninitiated to check the shelves at their local bookshop. The strong point here is undoubtedly the storyline, which tells of a race against time to prevent a group of religious fanatics murdering a young boy they are convinced is the Antichrist. What makes this so particularly disturbing is that it's all so plausible.
If you read the Dean Koontz novel on which this movie is based you will be sorely disappointed at the end of the film. It is NOT a faithful adaptation. I know, I know. Most novels on screen aren't. But this one was a real let down especially since Koontz is such a meticulous writer who pays such close attention to detail. Additionally the acting was bad with all the characters delivering flat, unbelievable performances. Dean Koontz fans who want to be as fascinated with the screen adaptation as the book should watch Phantoms instead, which was much better done, no doubt because Mr. Koontz wrote the screenplay himself.
the book is much better film dose not do justice to Dean r Koonts brilliance as a writer dont watch the film get the book and read it.
