Shackleton

One of the most amazing and compelling adventure stories of all time, Ernest Shackleton's 1915 expedition to the previously unexplored, forbidding land of Antarctica has been a subject of great public fascination for decades. With 27 crew members, the intrepid man became trapped in the icey land after his ship, the Endurance, sank into the Weddell Sea. Oscar-winning actor Kenneth Branagh plays the complicated and fearless explorer. The dramatic story is based on excerpts from Shackleton's own diaries, as well as accounts from some of his crew members.

Very good film, It was visually stunning and held our interest throughout the 3 and a half hours. One point to note is that Part 2 follows part 1 at the end of the DVD. When the Part 1 credits came on, I was cursing roundly , thinking I would have to order part 2 separately

    Snow goggles at the ready!

I enjoyed this adaptation of the classic explorers adventure. A solid cast gave good performances, and all seemed well suited to the roles.

I especially liked the stoic and hard worn carpenter, and Shakleton himself. The film does not just launch itself onto the snow, it builds with the trials of getting the project off the ground in the first place. This helps to add a slowly building tension. We know the outcome, but it is no less remarkable as a feat of human endurance and leadership. No one died on the expedition except the animals (Sadly).

    Recommended for lengthy cold evening!
