Too much fog...
Shadows And Fog review

though a big fan of Woody Allan I have to say this was not his finest moment. He seemed to want to capture the shadowy underworld of 19th century england (?) and, to be fair the sets were convincing to a point but it felt like he lost the plot or the script somewhere along the way. The cast of many - John Cusack, Jodi Foster, Mia Farrow and John Malkovitch were all very good in what they were doing - even Madonna played a convincing, if type cast shady circus lady. But the basic premise of people working together to protect their community in the face of an apparent serial killer was cliched and it loses its way in the foggy concoction of red herrings, sub-plots about relationships, brothels and philosphy. Stopped making sense to me early on and never found its way home after that. Sorry Woody.
