In the 1984 comedy Irreconcilable Differences, a young Drew Barrymore attempted to sue her parents for divorce. Now, in an odd case of life imitating art, this TV-movie drama traces the true-life court battle in which 12-year-old Shawn Russ (played by Tom Guiry) attempts to sever his ties with his uncaring biological family. Richard Crenna plays the caring family man who wants to adopt the young lad and helps him in his fight. The sensationalist storyline will keep viewers hooked, but the direction and playing is strictly routine.
