TV director Robert Iscove's feature debut is a preposterous but fun romantic comedy with a Pygmalion-like story. Rachael Leigh Cook plays a gawky teenager who gets a makeover from popular soccer star Freddie Prinze Jr after he bets he can turn even the most unlikely girl in their high school into a prom queen. Both leads are enjoyable, but equally worth catching are supporting stars Matthew Lillard (from Scream) as an egotistical oaf, Nash Bridges regular Jodi Lyn O'Keefe as Prinze's bitchy ex-girlfriend, The Piano Oscar-winner Anna Paquin as Prinze's sister and Kieran Culkin as Cook's gutsy younger brother. Fatboy Slim, Dust Junkys and Sixpence None the Richer contribute to the memorable soundtrack and there are fun performances from singer-turned-actors Usher Raymond and Kimberly “Lil' Kim” Jones.

    Predicatable but Cute

High school heart throb gets ditched by his vain obnoxious girlfriend for a reality TV freak and then makes a bet to transform the school geekette, who just happens to be stunningly attractive; even though she starts out wearing daggy clothes and geekish glasses you know she's hot right from the outset.

There are a couple of sweary words in this movie, lol, delivered with about as much conviction as a hedgehog crossing a six lane motorway. North Americans seem unable to swear properly.

Usual formulaic teen movie but with some hilarious scenes and a warm happy ending.

Excellent and very funny 'feel-good' romance

A modern update of 'My Fair Lady' where the most popular boy in high school makes a bet to turn the local girl misfit into the Prom Queen in 6 weeks. But she turns out to be much more special than anyone thought, and finally ends up changing him just as much. A very funny bittersweet romance that shines out from the crowd due to excellent acting and brilliant character design. Probably the best romantic comedy of the year, and like the understated 'Family Man', I challenge you not to fall in love with the unlikely heroine by the end of the film. Very highly recommended.

    formulaic but entertaining

This is a predictable but fun high school romantic comedy. I gave it only 2 stars because it is fairly forgettable, not the best in its genre and I will not be rushing to watch it again. However, I do recommend this film for a popcorn night at home. It was funny and cute. The ole ugly ducking story never fails to enchant me!

    Ok but v. cheesy

I found this film ok 4 a chick filck but it was quite average and made me cringe at times because it was so cheesy. One of the good things about watching it was that Freddie prince Jr was v. good looking in it! If your a girl and your between 13 and 17 then you would probably enjoy it. But it was rather predictable and cheesy so wouldn't really recomend it!

    Teen comedy as usual

Fun, lightweight teen comedy, My favourite kind... This movie is more enjoyable if you watch it after Not Another Teen Movie which is highly recommended! Rachel leigh cook is a babe, and the guys are just there to make up the numbers.

Classic teen comedy. Loved it the first time. Still loved the tackyness this time. To think that Channel 4's FILM FOUR company made it as well!!

    Not All That...

Amusing in places, and has a tried and true formula, but there was nothing to make it stand out. Nowt wrong with it, mind...
