She Certainly Has
By Benny Slowman from Scotland , 09 Oct 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This was Spike Lee's first movie. It does have a certain charm and was certainly very different when it first appeared in 1986.
It's about a girl and three different men who she is involved with and that's about it.It was filmed in Black and White apart from a brief colour scene featuring a lovely jazz song.
It is a funny movie to some degree and the great potential of Spike Lee as a director is quite evident. It is all badly let down by some really poor, unconvincing acting.
Certainly a worthwhile curiosity and worth seeing but there is not an awful lot to get excited about- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Amusing and extraordinary "feminist" chick flick
By irenemontero (1 review) , 09 Jun 2011One of my favourite films. I really like this take of Spike Lee in the 'chick flick' genre portraying the strong unapologetic character of polyamorous Nola Darling who has three lovers and a lesbian friend fighting to be the centre of her attentions.
Deliciously shot in black and white with the exception of the musical number in the park and great music for a deliciously unusual strangely feminist film with a hilarious Spike Lee as Mars Blackmon.
'There is no place like home. There is no place like home. There is no place like home'. Home is, naturally, Brooklyn.- Was this review helpful to you?

Talking heads
By Roy (59 reviews) from Liverpool , 17 Dec 2006This is Spike Lees first film and it's biggest asset is spike Lees direction.
It's biggest problem is Spike Lees acting as the unsubtly named Mars Blackmon he plays the hip young love intrest of the films main character Nola.
The film is a series of voxpop style talking heads about Nolas character interspaced with sections of Nola with her partners.
The acting on these is pretty variable but none as painful as Spike Lee unfortunately he's very generous with his own screen time giving himself far too long on screen fast forwared is your friend on getting through the film- Was this review helpful to you?
