Well-known for his ability to combine political and social issues with a poignant story, Spike Lee writes, directs, and produces SHE HATE ME. Watching this messy comedy drama, you may well wonder if director Spike Lee has totally lost the plot. Not only is this film audaciously offbeat, but it's also excruciatingly clichéd and so unconventionally constructed that it plays like a handful of genre movies all competing for supremacy. Jaws will certainly drop, as suave Anthony Mackie goes into unofficial business by impregnating rich lesbians — including Monica Bellucci's Mob princess — after being sacked as a whistle-blower from a corporation pushing a defective Aids vaccine. Following the internalised emotion of 25th Hour, Lee is back on his socio-political hobby horse, attacking corporate culture, greed and preconceptions about black men. Unfortunately, the feature's increasing ludicrousness and his insistence on pandering to crude male fantasies ultimately undermine any serious messages. Still, there are some very funny moments, not least John Turturro as a Godfather-quoting Mafia don. Consequently, the overall effect is like a car crash — a tragic waste, yet impossibly riveting.
A curious mix of corporate skullduggery and sexual politics that, whatever its intentions, has little point or purpose.

If Spike Lee thought that he'd add lesbians as another 'minority' to speak of, he couldn't have done a worse job of it! This film is downight insulting. While I can agree that a lesbian can be of any race, colour, shape and form, Spike's lesbians are just ridiculous! The initial scene where his main character is sitting down with his ex and a bunch of supposed lesbians (Spike trying to show a spectrum here *sarcastic tone* - a black woman, a Dominican one, an Asian one, an American one,etc...)is, I think, meant to be funny, but it is more cringe-worthy than an evening with Celebrity Love Island! This movie is shockingly AWFUL! Ellen Barkin clearly only read her scenes as I cannot imagine why she could have attached herself to such a bismal project. SHAME ON YOU SPIKE!
Very poor. No redeeming features, cleaning your shoes with a toothbrush would be a more worthwhile use of time.
This movie was listed as 'gay/lesbian interest'. The only possible reason a lesbian would be 'interested' in it would be to put every copy in a big pile and burn the lot. As a story it does OK, albeit not funny, some gratuitous violence and totally incomprehensive sex scenes, pandering to the myth that all lesbians require is a handsome man and they'll go like trains. The ending was so cheesy, I couldn't quite believe I was seeing it. I think we were supposed to think it was cute.
Having seen many movies by Spike Lee and enjoying them for the most part, for his enjoyable story telling, interesting concept shooting. I was hugely dissapointed with She Hate Me for its corny unintelligble tale.
I think this was supposed to be a parody movie whilst still honing in on the definite moral message we have come to associate with Spike Lee, this was bitterly lacking.
The film boasts a talented cast consisting of newcomer Anthony Mackie as well as Kerry Washington, Woody Harrelson and John Turturro. The cast cannot be blamed for the appalling attempt at trying to poke fun at the corporates, whilst shooting a soft porn, and indefinite tale of the underdog. The story is mish mashed with what can only be described as Spikes wet dream.
There are better movies by Lee, I would recommend you watch either Get on the Bus, Inside Man, Jungle Fever or Mo' Better Blues.
Somehow this has been placed in the comedy section, this film did not even raise a smile! Nothing even remotely amusing in it. A bad pick for me. It has taught me to READ the reviews in future

Spike Lee's films have often contained a good deal of themes - Jungle fever lurches from inter-racial love to crack abuse - but this one contains two films. One is a conspiracy thriller, the other a... shagathon. Unfortunately, the former that exposes the hypocrisy of corporate white America is unceremoniously dropped for the latter and any suspense that had been built up is lost. I was incredulous that such a good set up should be abondoned for a bizarre subplot that I think was meant to reinforce the main character's emasculation but is done in such a comedic way, complete with cartoon sperm, that I found myself reaching for the remote. When the film does return to the first story my belief was shattered. That said, the early parts are worth watching for students of Spike Lee.
I began watching with reservations, as the first 15 minutes are quite dull due to a bit of wooden acting, but then the film changes up a gear, and there are several storylines running parallel throughout. I thought this was an imaginative attempt to make a very different film from the ordinary.
The "erotic" scene referred to as bad taste by a previous critic was in fact one of the best attempts at "soft porn" I've seen on cinema and in good taste, and marginally funny into the bargain. Excellent viewing, but definitely not for the kids. Those who appreciate movie-art should watch this - its far from disappointing.
the most insulting movie ive had the displeasure of watching.
... all lesbians just need to find the right man... right???? ....
DONT WATCH IT

this film is rated a 15, However we sat down with our 14 and 15 year olds, set to watch a comedy/lesbian film, and I was amazed at how close to soft porn it comes, there are points in the film where we had to fast forward, and we are not PRUDES!!!
reasonably good film, but don't watch with your kids!!!!
If you like the female of the species in all it's glory with T & B's everywhere, and plenty of Sex with all the necessary grunts and groans associated with the ultimate Male/ Female relationship (with a surprising difference), and a nice animated graphical portrayal of the result of that final climax, then this quite amusing film is worth a view. Only things like this happen in films - or do they??!!
