If Spike Lee thought ...
By Jennifer Kilchenmann from London, UK , 07 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
If Spike Lee thought that he'd add lesbians as another 'minority' to speak of, he couldn't have done a worse job of it! This film is downight insulting. While I can agree that a lesbian can be of any race, colour, shape and form, Spike's lesbians are just ridiculous! The initial scene where his main character is sitting down with his ex and a bunch of supposed lesbians (Spike trying to show a spectrum here *sarcastic tone* - a black woman, a Dominican one, an Asian one, an American one,etc...)is, I think, meant to be funny, but it is more cringe-worthy than an evening with Celebrity Love Island! This movie is shockingly AWFUL! Ellen Barkin clearly only read her scenes as I cannot imagine why she could have attached herself to such a bismal project. SHAME ON YOU SPIKE!- Was this review helpful to you?

(51)Funny if taken with a pinch of salt
By a customer , 29 Dec 2012This is the first Spike Lee film I've seen and I was dubious because of the story line and its poor reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The cast have a natural chemistry, which made the film very watchable and funny and there was no 'one size fits all' lesbian portrayal which was so refreshing. This film is good if you don't take it or yourself too seriously - it has the potential to offend but it neither sets out to nor tip-toes around anyones feelings. If you are offended by bisexuality, nudity or sex then you probably won't like this also it does totally play into male fantasies especially the unlikely ending. The birth scenes and the ending were actually the only parts that made me cringe.- Was this review helpful to you?

Someone spiked Spike Lee's tea?
By BigMeUp (281 reviews) from Midlands, UK , 20 Sep 2010Don't know how else to explain this film. Director Spike Lee has got the 'womens' kissing each other okay, but I'm not a teenager any longer and I don't need that to get off to.
Why the Mafia-story arc?
And is it just me, or is there something Spike's got about White Women? I thought that crap went out with the lynchings?!
A damned uneven film, even with the glorious Kerry Washington in attendance ... and speaking of Kerry, watch her closely in the scene on the beach towards the end of the movie and try to tell me she wasn't feeling uncomfortable snogging that other chick.
In the hands of another director carrying fewer chips on his/her shoulder, this probably would have been an excellent movie. As it is...- Was this review helpful to you?
