Basil Rathbone is the best
By Ian Ellis from Liverpool , 27 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
After watching Sherlock Holmes played by many actors, Basil has got to be the best. Not a big Sherlock fan but it was a recommendation by a friend and I enjoyed it. Well worth a watch- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)He does a great Frank Spencer, too
By Squizz (43 reviews) from Lancaster , 27 Jun 2007A Secret Service agent carrying vital documents disappears, prompting the Great Detective to fly to the States to retrieve them.
'I must confess to a marked irritation' says Holmes, and he's dead right. This really is one of the films carried solely by Rathbone and Bruce's double-act, and even they don't turn up till the second reel, before spending an age being shown endless US landmarks. There's no real mystery or suspense, barring a nifty pass-the-parcel/Trojan Horse routine.
The highlight is Watson's anecdote about a WWI carrier pigeon, which says it all really.- Was this review helpful to you?

An absolute cracker!
By MUFFINMAN from woking , 11 May 2005I say! Top-ho, old chap! This is one of the very best of the entire Rathbone and Bruce series. It has immense charm, a great storyline. lots of humour and charm. This is the type of film you can watch again and again, and enjoy more every time.
Made during WWII and a bit of a propaganda piece for US/UK relations, but noe the worse for that. DVD quality, unlike some others in this series, is actually quite reasonable.- Was this review helpful to you?

Give an old movie a chance!
By doneb4 from Bristol , 27 Apr 2005This is a great film! It is very funny as well, if you have a dry sense of humour. Holmes & Watson go to America (? 1940's / 50's). Not much in the way of a mystery you can solve yourself, but probably the most tense moment you will see in a film that involves a packet of matches!- Was this review helpful to you?
