Mesmerising, Fresh, Charismatic and Sophisticated!
By Giz (255 reviews) from Coventry , 31 Jul 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
There have been so many films and television programmes based on the famous detective that one wonders if anything 'original and fresh' can be achieved with this character ..... the answer is a resounding Yes!
This is a wonderfully fresh, captivating drama, being fast paced, breezy, intelligent, witty and a mesmerising production with great performances from the lead actors. A brilliantly devised idea, great pacy script and clever storyline. In Benedict Cumberbatch they have truly found their new Sherlock Holmes - a truly eccentric and charismatic character !
A brilliant television pilot series that surely must herald a new age of comedy drama for the more sophisticated viewer!- Was this review helpful to you?

(59)Three words: Flawless, Outstanding, Awesome.
By Adrianus (1 review) , 11 Apr 2013If you have watched the Sherlock Holmes Movies (with Robert Downey Jr.) or any early TV shows, you may be doubting the quality of this show. I actually had a friend recommend this to me, and my trail of thought went: 'How can this possibly be as good as the movies?' And he went on to explain to me: 'Its set in modern day' That left me thinking: 'Seriously?! That would make it even worse!' However, on the iTunes 12 days of Christmas this year, they handed out a free digital copy of the first episode of the first season. I downloaded it for the sake of it, but had no further intention to actually watch it. Well, one long train journey on the way to London about a week later, I loaded it up on my iPod and decided to try it. Let's just say: wow. Honestly, its flawless. Beginning with the great cast of actors, Benedict Cumberatch does so much justice to the character of Sherlock, you'll be left wondering how you ever admired Robert Downey Jr. acting in the movies. Martin Freeman brings Dr. John Watson to life like never before. The pacing is fantastic. As someone who has read the book/s (cannot actually remember how many there were), it came as an added bonus to see it brought to life. The first episode is where they meet up, and is mostly character development and setting the scene. The second and third episode explode into action, keeping you on the edge of your seat. There's a lot of positive things I could say about this, but honestly, you're better off watching it yourself and not having me spoil it for you. Best TV show I've yet watched. Give it a try. (I have just finished Season 1, got Season 2 coming soon! :D)- Was this review helpful to you?

In their element!
By zeep2k (35 reviews) from Merseyside , 17 Dec 2012This must be one of the be one of the best BBC series that I have seen in years. The pairing of Freeman and Cumberbatch is superb as the on screen chemistry between the two charachters personalities is brilliant. You will be kept guessing til the last episode and will want to watch the second series immediatly. A must watch for all armchair detectives!- Was this review helpful to you?

Elementary, my dear Watson!
By wastedtime (10 reviews) , 12 Nov 2012An amazing amount of detail is included as you watch this - certainly not a show to watch while multi-tasking, as you really need to pay attention to get all the story line. Love the characters, really well done - and some great views of London!- Was this review helpful to you?
