In a first-rate family entertainment, a boy befriends a hunting dog that's being cruelly treated by its owner, a neighbouring farmer. The boy's dad reckons it's the neighbour's business, and that he shouldn't get involved. But, convinced by a kindly shopkeeper that a boy's gotta do what a boy's gotta do, the kid takes the paw into his own hands and fights doggedly to become the beagle's new owner. Refreshingly unsentimental and impeccably acted by a cast which includes Michael Moriarty as the dad and Rod Steiger as the shopkeeper, Shiloh is a minor treat for kids and grown-ups alike. A sequel followed in 1999.
"...What is remarkable about the film is that it deals with real moral issues....SHILOH, like all great family films, deals with real issues in real ways..."
I didn't watch this film but my 3 year old son did. I got all my housework done while he sat glued to shiloh. The fact he loves dogs may have had something to do with it but anything that keeps him happy is a five star film in my book :-)
my children loved this film sat glued to the television. great film.
