In 1992, Hee was trained by a secret North Korean terrorist organisation to be a deadly assassin. Six years later, her extreme accuracy has taken the lives of many in South Korea, and Ryu--a special agent of OP, Korea's top secret intelligence agency--along with his cohort Lee, have devoted years to capturing slippery Hee to no avail. Ryu keeps his profession a secret from his pretty fiancee, Hyun--a recovering alcoholic who runs a tropical fish store. Meanwhile, Hee's organisation has hijacked a military truck transporting CTX, an explosive potent enough to destroy the entire city of Seoul, for potential use at a soccer match between North and South Korea, which is being staged as an attempt to heal the rocky relationship between the two countries. Ryu gets word of the potential destruction, but will he be able to find the mysterious Hee and stop it in time

Taking its title from a tropical fish whose survival depends on its ability to swim against the tide — a symbol of the reunification aspirations of Koreans on either side of the 38th Parallel — director Kang JeGyu's no-holds-barred blockbuster slickly combines political intrigue and explosive action. The identity of the terrorist co-ordinating an audacious bid to assassinate the leaders of North and South Korea at a football match is never in doubt. But what is impressive is the way that Kang finds time to explore security agent Han Suk-kyu's emotions during a breakneck race against the clock. Generic film-making perhaps, but executed with intelligence and panache.

A fantastic film which is a must for all action film fans. The movie is about a new form of terrorist weapon which a group is planning to use to cause disaster at a football match between North and South Korea. The story is immensely gripping with superb action set-pieces and a bit of a love story thrown in too! If you are looking for a film to introduce you to Korean cinema then look no further than Shiri. Great stuff.

    Enjoyable but too long.

This was a good movie as far as the action was concerned but it was drawn out over the 2hrs and a lot of the scenes simply were not needed. Having said that the acting was good for an action movie and the cinematography was better than average as well. In saying that there were a few silly parts where i dont think the screenwriter had a clue what he was doing. But if you look past the errors and boring segments you have a good solid action movie. 3 out of 5.
