Still the best movie!!!!!!
By Prem Srivastav from Hertfordshire, England , 13 Aug 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
This is still the best movie, even after a quarter of a century, to be watched by the whole family. It has comedy, action, romance, tragedy, drama, songs, music, memorable dialogues and picturesqe scenes all rolled into one. It grips you right from the beginning and keeps you glued to your TV screen (though it would be best to watch on a big screen) till the end. All this keeps you capitivated throughout the film, due to excellent acting skills and a gripping story line.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Comfi2 (2 reviews) , 04 Sep 2012Sholay hit the screens over 30 years ago..And still stay's on top with the Bollywood films of today,
The story line was just as griping then, as it is to watch now.
The fact is don't let the age for the film put you off you will find it has it all to keep the family entertained.- Was this review helpful to you?

All Time Classic
By a customer , 11 Apr 2012This is a classic..... it is still relived in so many ways now. Amitab and the other guy from Gazaab ( i cant remember his name) were splendid. To think that he met his wife through this movie makes it all more romantic. Bansanti is a very strong and lively character and I also loved to songs- Was this review helpful to you?

If you watch one Bollywood Film in your life - make it this one!
By a customer , 15 Jan 2012Anybody who harks back to a more innocent time when VCRs were the size of a small elephant (and made a similar noise while operating) and bollywood videos were rented from libraries in people's living rooms, will remember the awe and wonder of watching this seminal bollywood film for the first time.
A great screenplay, great acting, drama, tradgedy, action and of course no bollywood film is complete without the plethora of songs and colour.
If you watch one Bollywood film in your lifetime make it this one - you will not regret it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great 'curry western' that stands the test of time
By a customer , 08 Jan 2012Have just watched this film again after 20 years or so since it was screened on Channel 4 (and having seen it originally on release in 1975!). It stands the test of time pretty well, although it is definitely too long. Essentially a reworking of 'The Magnificent Seven' (which itself was based on the The Seven Samurai), the film has some great action sequences and memorable songs; the performances are all very good but Amjad Khan is outstanding as the bandit Gabbar Singh, and the practice of quoting his dialogue has made this film something of a cult classic. Definitely worth watching, although there are a few too many shoot-outs and horse chases in the last hour of the film.
For non-Hindi speakers, it is worth pointing out that the DVD omits subtitles for the songs which is a shame. The other point to mention if watching with the family, is that although this is a 'PG' certificate, there is fairly liberal use of term 'b*****d' through the film.- Was this review helpful to you?
