Short Cuts

Director Robert Altman
Genres Drama
Run time 188 mins Certificate 18

30th June 2010

This film has a decent idea behind it but doesn't see that through. For a start it is just far too long for what it is. For the film to get away with such a long runtime it really had to make each story a lot more intriguing, instead you feel you are leaving one less than interesting story for the continuation of another. I simply could not get into it. It is also accompanied by a jazz soundtrack that is quite annoying (perhaps this is down to personal music tastes, perhaps it genuinely doesn't fit, I dunno).

Highlight is easily the story of the young boy in the Andie MacDowell story arc, nicely overlapping with several of the stories, with an emotional engage the others lack, where you actually want to know how it pans out.

Perhaps worth a watch for its intent but be prepared for a long haul.
