Shot In The Heart

Gary Gilmore was convicted on two counts of murder and was set to be executed by the state of Utah in 1977. It was to be the first executioner of a prisoner in America in ten years. Gilmore's brother Mikal traveled across the country days before the execution date to speak with his brother as well as to convince Gary to sign papers that would stay the execution. Mikal was prepared to meet with the brother he had not seen in years, but was not equipped to handle the media coverage that his brother's capital punishment would receive and the circus of activity he would encounter upon meeting Gary in the Draper Correctional Facility.
Elias Koteas plays Gary Gilmore and Giovanni Ribisi plays Mikal in this moving account of two brothers attempting to connect during the most dire circumstances. This HBO feature film is based upon Mikal Gilmore's own autobiographical book about this turbulent time. Agnieska Holland (EUROPA EUROPA) directs with strong emotional intensity.

    A beautiful and touching story

I have been a fan of GIANNI RIBISI since seeing him in an XFiles episode where he played a kid who could control lightning.

I decided to rent this film after also enjoying his further performances in THE GIFT and BOILER ROOM.

I found SHOT IN THE HEART to be a touching story about a brother who never really knew his older brother until a time where his older brother was about to be executed following being imprisoned for the murder of two men.

The fact that this film is based on a true story and the fact that every actor gives a believable and moving performance I suggest you rent this asap. If like me you are not familiar with the the true story this movie will still be a piece to watch and enjoy. This film is not however filled with on the edge of your seat gripping stuff but is packed with great feeling. I think that this film would of made a great stage play and the movie unfolds as such...

    Watch and enjoy.

    So So

This is a film about Gary Gilmore and his attempt to make sure he got the death penalty. I enjoyed the film but found it a bit confusing in places when it came to all the law stuff. Some good performances by the actors though.
