documentary following the trials and troubles of four shows on their way to Broadway - Wicked, Avenue Q, Caroline or Change and Taboo; from the plannng stages to opening night and beyond. Lots of backstage drama, interviews with the stars and creative teams behind the scenes. I admit that I thought this was going to be really dull, but it caught my attention very quickly on and I sat and watched the entire thing with great pleasure.- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)A very watchable documentary, but lacking a little in decent rehearsal footage
By RobHenderson (2 reviews) from Bradford-on-Avon , 04 May 2011This is quite an insightful look at the writing and producing side of musical theatre.
Not quite so much rehearsal footage as I'd hoped, which was a bit of a shame as it's such a rare thing to get an inside view - particularly when the shows featured include Wicked & Avenue Q.
Still, a very watchable documentary - with a good range of featured artists; some you like and champion throughout, and a couple that don't come over quite so well (which makes interesting viewing!).
Very interesting to be 'at the table' with a bunch of theatre critics discussing the season's offerings. Every perception you might have of theatre critics is entirely reinforced by this bunch. Quite an eye-opener, and amazing to see how much damage these people can do to a show - and also how brilliantly wrong they can get it when the shows they slate manage to push through and achieve huge success.
A real-life underdog story, and you're sitting right there on the rollercoaster with them.
Well worth a watch.- Was this review helpful to you?
