I saw this in the US recently. It started well but was slow paced. The plot line is ridiculous, which is not necessarily a problem if you can be persuaded to keep your disbelief out of the way. However by the end I felt as though I'd watched a 60s Hammer Horror film, only with rather good camera work.

Starts as a police procedural. Wanders around various horror / thriller stereotypes, nodding to Hammer, Twilight Zone, Cape Fear on the way before getting seriously nasty if you have children - there is one scene you will not want to watch twice - and after all that, it all gets seriously weird.

  • Creepy, strange, odd and watchable

The creeps is in full effect in this Titantic of a prison thriller. DiCaprio is at his nervous shuffling best and is finally looking his age! Heart stopping moments with fab supporting roles from Max and Ben make this a classic of the genre and Martin finally directs a good film again.

  • Over rated

I thought this film is over rated. It starts well and promises a lot and for a while you think you might be watching something very good but the plot and ultimate twist is just far too contrived . It uses more and more gory flash backs and predictable horror film ploys to try to make is scary. In the end disappointing especially after the build up.

Very good movie. Cleverly done, you doubt all the time, when you think you have understood, well the story takes a u-turn! It's very good. Highly recommended.
