Shutter
By Lucii (3 reviews) from Ramsgate , 16 Sep 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
This was a great thriller/horror, there were some very scary moments. The story was very good with alot of twists, kept me guessing until very near the end. It was not predictable at all.- Was this review helpful to you?

(151)Same old same old
By Faerie30 (26 reviews) , 13 Feb 2013A bit predictable, some good bits at the end so worth sticking with but the idea has been done before and the film feels the same as its predecessors.- Was this review helpful to you?

By cheesekake (1283 reviews) from uk , 04 Jan 2013liked this film a lot and I've seen it more than once, and it still makes me jump. It's got that great weirdness that Japanese horror films have. defo worth watching- Was this review helpful to you?

Neutered Down Pap
By TimPlanet (3 reviews) , 22 Nov 2012Man! The original of this film is really fantasic and very scary.
With this remake they literally took out all the best scenes and neutered down the rest. It was shocking how they had made decisions to descare scene after scene.
The acting was good and it was well put together but it actually made me angrier and angrier as I went through - just how much worse it was than the original.- Was this review helpful to you?

It's not that bad
By JayLow (122 reviews) , 12 Oct 2012Shutter is a remake of a Thai horror - which I haven't seen. Like all English language remakes it's supposed to be vastly inferior (even if it isn't!) and I think that is partly why it received unfavourable reviews. It's really not THAT bad.
It's certainly not hugely original though. Yes, of course it's not original as it's a remake, I mean the original isn't that original...if you know what I mean. There's a touch of What Lies Beneath in there, plenty of Ring and we also get that now overcooked Asian horror staple of the scary girl peerily out angrily through long black hair.
It certainly is creepy though and there are some decent set-peices - the ghostly attack punctuated by a flashing camera is a highlight and the final reveal is very effective.
Unfortunately it just doesn't take that extra step from creepy to scary. Things are revealed too quickly and the second half of the film doesn't crank up the horror as it should.
Still, it isn't bad.- Was this review helpful to you?

too much too early
By greedo (12 reviews) , 18 Jul 2012Some good thrills but unfortunately you get to see the nasties too early in the film. If you want some scares get the paranormal activity films instead. Nice twist at the end ......- Was this review helpful to you?
