Something New?
By Talsar (31 reviews) from Vulcan , 22 Jul 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
Well if you are like me and have been craving Keyboard/Mouse support for console Strategy Games, Is Civilization Revolution the answer? Well yes and no! The game has had most of its guts removed (from Civilization four), which is not necessary a bad thing. However personally I found they have removed too much from the advancements they have made since Civilization two. Don't get me wrong I am aware why they have done so, it was to allow the game to work with the controller, as you can now group soldiers/warriors into armies (nice touch), but the whole diplomacy side seems to have its guts removed too, I never thought I would say this usually playing Civilization as a War Morgerer, but it is a shame. It is like - Lets make peace, the Civs go 'Yea!!! Have a little dance' all the time, no negotiation. There is also no leader traits from Civilization Four, for example if you were trying to make a treaty with Neapolitan you knew eventually he would attack you as that is what his character is like. Do I like the Game? Well I love all the last Civilization titles, so yes! But I do wish they would have retained more of the guts. It is commonly known that they removed the guts and made the game easy to finish in 3 to 6 hours, because it was built for 360 and Wii with no Hard Drive - so no saves, shame whem the PS3 has hard drive as standard!. They should have had two sections to the game one for epic battles (saves) and quick game (no saves) .... You won't have your Epic 60+ hour PC battles here..... Shame!. Giving it 5 stars as it is easy to control and still very very enjoyable title.- Was this review helpful to you?

(41)By far the best strategic game on the 360
By Spilledbore (7 reviews) from Colchester , 02 Aug 2012By far the best strategic game on the 360, there is just somthing that keeps you playing, ive owned this game now 4 times in the past 4 years, although it does lack in some areas its a game you and sit back and relax playing, the scenarios add many hours of gameplay, sadly this game lacks a sequel and has been left to become a rare and amazing game of its kind on the console, it will keep you entertained for many hours and does have some easy achievmants, or tho some are harder than others, 1 for instant asks you to get every great person and as its all randomized you will be lucky to get the achievement, if you a fan of the civ games then its worth buying, if you just want to relax for a few hours and loose yourself with a interesting strategic game then its worth renting- Was this review helpful to you?

Gamer score
By Gatesey (2 reviews) , 15 May 2012I love this game so much but it fills me with such hate at the same time. Brilliant game play but odd numbered Gamerscore! I know it's just numbers but having a 9 or a 3 on the end is so annoying and it's because of this game. I can say this is a great game but that is a very annoying down side.- Was this review helpful to you?

Onum gronum!!! Shut up woman!!!!
By Sprouts (8 reviews) , 30 Jul 2011Christ I could pull my hair out, because of that dialogue above!! Well I will keep it brief on this one.
Gameplay is slow and clunky, but the menus and controls are good if you're a strategy fan you will like it more.
Happy gaming :)- Was this review helpful to you?

Worth a Try
By TheRopemaker (5 reviews) from Manchester , 23 Jul 2010i found civilisation revolution slightly disapointing, as gameplay stands it is still fairly strong as other civ games have been however if you are looking for a game like civ4 then i wouldnt suggest this, revolution games are of a much smaller size then those of civ4. the matches will only have around 4 AI players and the worlds are not large. revolutions also does not alow for map specification so the map is randomly created without any player input.
the dificulties are well worked out for most players with a mix of chalenge and enjoyability. if you are looking for acheivements then this game is fairly easy to get them on but it can get rather reppetative.- Was this review helpful to you?

Long term Civilization fan slightly disappointed
By Timi42 (2 reviews) from Kent , 22 Apr 2010I've been playing Civ since the original came out. However I've been stuck with civilization 2 for the last 14 years when a thought popped into my brain, I wonder if they've made a sequel by now. So I added this to my rentals and ordered Civilization IV for PC.
Unfortunately for Revolution they came at the same time, a console version is never going to compete with the PC ones. I didn't pick this up until flying through Civ IV and being wowed by all the new features so the stuff that impresses most games had no effect, great people for example and more wonders and buildings as well as territory (Never again will the pesky Aztecs put a city in the middle of mine and nick resources). I seriously struggled to finish one game of Revolutions settling for a cultural, keep pressing end turn, victory; and this comes from someone who plays the longest game on the largest map and doesn't quit till everyone is dead normally on PC versions.
My advice then is for a long term hardcore Civ fan do not touch this with a barge pole unless you aren't handing over any money. For those who have never played the series, you should probably shoot yourselves first, play it if anything it may hook you on the PC games.
The game itself is aimed at a younger generation with style over substance, comical advisers for example and a fancy map. This kind of stuff doesn't usually apply for hardcore Civ fans when its exchanged for in depth features. The lack of control over cities and no explore button made it tedious.
However I am being too harsh if I said this was a rubbish game, it has its merits but my conclusion is why waste time playing a half version with an annoying controller when you can rule the word with keyboard and mouse and every feature at your disposal.- Was this review helpful to you?
